Countless articles in <strong>Forbes, Harvard Business Review<\/strong>, and <strong>WSJ<\/strong> highlight how leaders who are open, transparent, and willing to admit mistakes build trust, inspire loyalty, and create high-performing teams. And they\u2019re right\u2014up to a point.<\/p><p>But let\u2019s talk about the other side of the coin.<\/p><p>Vulnerability, if overplayed or misplaced, can be a leader\u2019s Achilles\u2019 heel. You can be beloved, trusted, and successful\u2014leading your company to new heights\u2014only to be blindsided by betrayal. <strong>Julius Caesar wasn\u2019t killed by his enemies. He was murdered by his closest allies.<\/strong><\/p><p>In business, the dagger isn\u2019t a literal blade but a backroom deal, a power grab, or a slow erosion of trust that leaves you exposed when it matters most. I\u2019ve seen it happen. You trust fellow leaders to do what\u2019s right, to uphold the values of the company, and to put the organization ahead of personal ambition. <strong>But not everyone plays by the same rules.<\/strong> Some will trade integrity for title, influence, or even just the fear of becoming irrelevant.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-92ad109 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"92ad109\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0b96242 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0b96242\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span>This isn\u2019t a call to abandon vulnerability, it\u2019s a call for balance. My predecessor as CEO treated the board of directors, made up of his partners, like a coiled-up snake! I was the opposite extreme. The right answer is probably somewhere in the middle.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d74b8fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d74b8fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em><strong>Be open, but not naive.<\/strong> Share enough to inspire trust, but don\u2019t give people the ammunition to undercut you.<\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Trust, but verify.<\/strong> Keep an eye on motivations, not just words. When someone starts making moves that don\u2019t align with the company\u2019s mission, pay attention.<\/em><\/p><p><em><strong>Power dynamics are real.<\/strong> Leadership isn\u2019t just about being likable or transparent. It\u2019s also about being strong enough to withstand pressure and navigate the chess game happening around you<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8578611 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8578611\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span>Leaders that sustain know how to wield vulnerability without letting it become a weapon used against them.
